"The project served as a good platform to educate secondary school students and hopefully inspire them about Chemistry."

NUS ACSSC collaborated with NUS High School teachers and Young Educators in Science to introduce a series of Nobel Prize in Chemistry workshops. These workshops aimed to demonstrate more out-of-the-classroom practical aspects of chemistry and hopefully inspire the students to study chemistry at tertiary level.

The students were introduced to the research journey of Nobel prize-winning scientists before getting to “recreate” their experiments and

applying them to real life. The experiments planned included column chromatography and adsoprtion isotherms, though the latter was eventually scrapped due to lack of manpower and equipment.

Most of the groups were able to reproduce the experiment with visible good results. Many had bleeding columns; however, that was not a big issue during the experiment. Participants were very responsive and overall thought the workshop was well done.

We handled the workshop planning as a whole, from creating teaching materials, managing logistics, training and managing manpower with the help and advice from our collaborators. We hope to execute our planned workshop on adsorption isotherms in the near future.
