NUS ACSSC collaborated with Young Educators in Science members, NUS Science Demo Lab staff and scientists from Dow Chemical Pacific (Singapore) Pte Ltd to organise the “Surprising Science Fair”. The fair catered to 150 secondary school students from 10 schools and organisations. The fair was held to promote interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and train more science communicators. They were well received by both the students and the facilitators.

For some higher level students, they were able to understand the concepts that we aimed to teach them. Lower level students did not catch concepts that well in comparison, and some of those got very
excited and lost attention. Nevertheless. it was heartening to see that they enjoyed themselves very much. Overall, most participants were interested with what was delivered to them, paid curious attention to the scientific explanation, and relished the hands-on very much.
"The fair was a good way to educate the public on Chemistry, by using what they have seen in daily lives."
